NowWeAreTalking: G9 is flawed to the max.

The battle between Telstra and G9 continues. Below is a table, released on the Now We Are Talking website shows the strengths of Telstra and weaknesses of the G9 plan. Let’s substantiate on each of these claims:

img_g9-plan.gif
Engineering flaws

  • G9 propose Sub-loop unbundling (SLU) which enables other carriers to interconnect with Telstra’s customer access network at any point between the exchange and the customer premises.
  • SLU dismantles Telstra’s network - Telstra will be required to go out and physically cut the copper wire from its network and connect it to the competitor’s node that could see service disruptions and a host of potential technical difficulties.
  • This type of SLU has never been done anywhere in the world because it doesn’t work.
  • Responsibility for maintaining end-to-end service quality is not considered: how would failures be detected and who would be responsible for fixing them?Read what the Communication Workers Union of Australia has to say about SLU (www.cepu.asn.au)

… Read the rest of this article at NWAT (nowwearetalking.com.au)

Looking at this hoo-har from a logistical point-of-view; G9 doesn’t have the work-force, experience nor vision to be feasible. The required work-force and experience -especially- can not just be manufacturer overnight.

If G9 is favoured, which it has been so far, bye-bye to so many millions of dollars that will be NZ and Singapore bound.

Gazal looks to get rid of Mambo.

Gazal Corporation, owner of brands including: Bisley workwear, Midford schoolwear, and Lovable intimate apparel is looking at offloading its Mambo streetwear brand.

Gazal’s net profit fell 7.9 per cent to $6.73 million in the six months ended December 31, 2006. So it looks like Gazal is considering some approaches it’s received for the Mambo business. Mambo has undergone a major re-branding over the past couple of years and now has a strong street presense with its bold colours and local art-cum-clothing.

NetBusinessBlog.com -He’s selling up!

NetBusinessBlog.com (NBB) is one of my favourite internet business blogs. It’s up there with EJ and College-Startup for me. But Matt Coddington, founder of NBB and internet-marketing-supreme is selling up to concentrate on other projects.

Heres an extract of the sites sale ad on Digital Point:

Net Business Blog is a blog dedicated to helping its readers improve their internet income through a variety of earning avenues. The blog has content on marketing, minisites, affiliate marketing, domaining, SEO, social media, blogging, current events, and a ton more.

I have worked very hard to make this a respectable blog and protect its reputation. The blog was launched on January 7th, but has already become an authority in the industry. Traffic and revenue have been consistent since the first week and are growing daily without anything spent in advertising since early Feb.

In that short space of time Matt has done extremely well. He’s gone from 0-15k unique visitors and a PR5 generating over 1k in revenue a month in less than six months.  Outstanding! I want to know his tricks. I think I will read all his posts from beginning to end -again.

All I can say is good luck Matt and all the best with the other projects. I hope that the new buyer treats the site with respect and passion. Also, I hope Rock Surge stays in your interests.

Apple charging ahead on environmentalism.

Apple has coped a bit of flack of late on its environmental policies. From environmentalists of course. Apple’s recycling program has come into question.

indexglobal20060420.gif

“Apple said it would stop using polyvinyl chloride and brominated flame retardants in its plastic parts and eliminate arsenic from its monitors by the end of 2008. Apple also said it would step up recycling efforts for its computers and iPod music players.”

CEO, Steve Jobs has talked up Apple’s policies going forward. Check out Apple’s stance of the environment.

Here is a sign of Apple’s commitment to the environment and also a good bit of PR:

“Purchase any qualifying Apple computer or monitor and receive free recycling of your old computer and monitor — regardless of manufacturer. Learn more.”

Been pretty busy, oops.

I haven’t written a post in a few days -oops. I have just started back at uni and have been busy with work. Now, however, I have 13-days of annual leave so I aim to post at least one entry a day.

Sounds like a bit of a challenge for myself. Ok, let’s make it official. 13-days posts in 13-days. I promise to make them quality and worthwhile too. I have a few things I wish to write about: part 2 of the MySpace post, part 2 of the Worlds Thinnest Notebook post, and I can’t think of anything else on the spot right now. Stay tuned.

Yellow Pencil Brand Sharpening -Christchurch NZ.

i-logo-small.gif

I was looking up definitions of brand the other week and Google found me this website for NZ marketing firm, Yellow Pencil.

The site is pretty cool on the whole and the business seems pretty neat. What I really enjoyed is the brand glossary section. Here sits an extensive list of key brand related definitions. Very expert information and uber-easy to follow.

My favourite definition is humble, branding:

Selecting and blending tangible and intangible attributes to differentiate the product, service or corporation in an attractive, meaningful and compelling way.

Check out the site. It’s cool and you might learn a thing or two on brands.

Pajago’s latest acquisition.

Last week on Digital Point I made purchase of Directory-Tree. I must say it’s one of the neatest web directory designs I have seen in a while: especially for the price.

The stats for the site are pretty neat. It’s Alexa ranked; has a PR1 (which I’ll soon change) and loads of potential.

This is my new pet-project so we’ll see how we go.

In other news, I have been on a domain name buying spree. Purchased four over the week. All have loads of potental. A couple I wish to build blogs around and flip. The others I’ll invest time and effort as they are associated with interests of mine, i.e. global warming and travel.

Intel & Ziba produce worlds thinnest notebook.

It’s fashionable; connects to all sorts of wireless connections and is almost as thin as the Motorola Razr mobile phone. Yes, it’s the thinnest notebook in the world. Code-named the Intel Metro notebook.

Most followers of this blog will realise that I am an Apple Mac enthusiast and that aesthetics are semi-important to me. Well, I must say this notebook is freakin’ hot.

Stay tuned as I will be looking at the Intel Metro in a little more detail in a future post.
